From Belly to Baby… San Diego Maternity and Newborn Posing & Photography
I love these double blog posts! Not only do I get to share a super adorable newborn session with you, but also a gorgeous maternity session too!
Meet baby Quinn! Isn’t she so cute? Her lashes were just amazingly long and gorgeous! I totally want lashes like hers! Anyways, baby Quinn came to the studio last month for her newborn photography session and we had a great time! At just one week old, we had a great time posing her and getting a few adorable smiles and expressions from her while she slept peacefully.
I always recommend that newborn sessions be held around seven or eight days for a couple of reasons. First, coming in super early – like day 3 or 4 – is awesome, but sometimes, if mom is breastfeeding, milk is juuuuuust starting to flow at a somewhat consistent pace, so baby and mommy can begin to figure each other out. Giving them a few days to get into a rhythm is key to keeping baby content for longer periods of time when feeding. I also like the 7-8 day range, because I find that close to two weeks old, babies begin to go through a growth spurt, which makes them super HUNGRY for a couple of days. It is totally workable and I have had amazing photos captured of 2 week old babies, but it does require a bit more work to get there. After the two week mark, all is good, and posing is still great, but baby’s body begins to change. I like to capture baby early on, just to really show how scrunchy newborns can be right out of the womb.

N and T’s maternity session took place on a super bright and beautiful San Diego day. Anytime I arrive at the beach and it’s super bright, I usually explain to my clients that we’re going to be ‘killing time’ for a short while as we wait for that sun to dip down and those magical clouds to turn amazing colors. So on this particular day, as we were ‘killing time’, I decided I would try out a spot with a bit of shade – a lovely moss covered rock that I would stand on in order to photograph this gorgeous couple from above. I had N and T stand by a rock while I climbed up… Well, the moss covered rock decided it didn’t want me to step on it and I took quite a fall, ripping the skin right off of my leg. Ouch! But the camera was ok! Lol, that is what I was most worried about, haha!
And then the sun went down and we got this magic…
