Your Baby’s Safety Will Always Come First
Nothing is more important to me than your baby’s comfort and safety. Newborn photography requires patience, experience, and an understanding of newborn behavior that can only be developed through years of specialized practice. Every newborn is wonderfully unique. Some babies sleep peacefully throughout their session, while others prefer extra cuddles and feeding breaks. Both experiences are completely normal. My sessions are always baby-led, which means your newborn determines the pace of our time together. I never rush babies into poses they aren’t comfortable with, and I always allow plenty of time for soothing, feeding, and comforting throughout the session. Many of the intricate newborn poses seen online are safely created as composite images that are carefully blended during editing while your baby remains fully supported throughout the process. No photograph is ever more important than your baby’s wellbeing.
When Should You Reserve Your Carmel Valley Newborn Session?
I recommend reserving your newborn session during your second trimester whenever possible. Rather than scheduling a firm appointment date before your baby arrives, I reserve space around your estimated due date. Once your little one makes their arrival, we’ll finalize your appointment date during the ideal newborn photography window. Many newborn sessions are photographed between five and fourteen days after birth when babies are naturally sleepier and more comfortable in softly curled poses. However, beautiful newborn portraits can absolutely be created beyond this traditional timeframe. Babies don’t arrive according to calendars, and every family’s journey is wonderfully unique. If your baby has already arrived, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Sometimes, parents come into the studio with the intent of just having their little newborn photographed, feeling exhausted and not ready to be photographed themselves. It makes me so happy when I am able to suggest that parents step in for a couple of shots, and when they do, they immediately are happy that they reconsidered. Having those first family portraits is so important, and in years to come, you’ll reflect back on these images and remember the excitement, nervousness and even sleepless nights from this stage in your lives!
